Diana Walker in Vancouver, BC, Canada — Here’s what I wrote on Friday, November 7, 2008..
—— I got a call from my son Jesse Walker in the Cayman Islands this morning – he had slipped on wet stairs while carrying boxes, preparing for Hurricane Paloma – and fell, landed on his head. Got a concussion and was convulsing.
Got knocked out – ambulance came – he refused to go to hospital. When he called me he sounded dazed – but he insisted that he was continuing to help everyone get ready for the hurricane – and a friend in the background said they were all making sure he did not fall asleep/pass out.
I was so worried.
But I’ve heard from him again an hour ago and he sounds more like himself.
Oh, us Moms always are Moms…. And he is so far away.
Then Jesse phoned me from the Grand Cayman (where he’s lived for 2 years) — 5 am on Saturday – they had all survived, in a complex – Treasure Island – no power, and raging wind and rain. Now he was back at his home, seeing some damage but not a lot. Then heading back to help clean up other damage on the island and at his place of work.
He says — “I guess that is the price you have to pay to live in Paradise, Mom…”
Whew…. Life is so precious, and each of us has to live our dreams, right?

Praise the Lord he is ok and they have survived. Yes you are so right. We moms…….. lol. But that is what we are here for.
WOW – Di! Thanks so much for sharing . . . we are all so relieved Jesse is okay and that everyone survived the hurricane. What a guy Jesse is – I can just see him helping everyone that needed help, and not wanting to be away from the action. I know he loves adventure, and being of service (a chip off the old block!). Now you can rest a little easier.
Sending lots of Love,
Your sis, Goldie
It’s tough for us moms not to worry… i am glad he is okay!
I always tell me kids “its my job to worry”:)
So glad your son is safe, Diana. He sounds like an amazing person, always wanting to help others.
My mom always told me you never stop worrying about your kids, no matter how old they are. I can definitely see how that’s true and I imagine it must be harder with him being so far away.

Thank you, Thank you – Tricia, Goldie, Christina —- yes, we as Moms know what it is like…. and the worries and concerns are always more than outbalanced by the joys and privilege of being a Mom!

Hi Diana,
Thanks for keeping us up to date with these blogs. I’m so glad to hear that Jesse is okay. I didn’t even realise that the Caymans were getting ready for a hurricane. God Bless them all and Jesse for being so great helping with everything. Sounds like you raised an amazing kid……which I already knew. Both your boys are awesome.
Healing Love and Light to you all and especially Jesse
Dianne
Praise and Glory to God that Jesse and everyone has survived and is doing okay after Paloma. Moms and Dads don’t ever stop worrying about their children. I can attest to that,
Abundant Blessings,

Hi Diane, sorry to hear about your son,but so glad he and the others are ok.as you know I lost a 44 yr.old son dec.8’th /06. it is a shock to lose a child suddenly and they live live 1,000.00 miles away from you.but god helps you through it.
God Bless

We are so glad to hear that Jesse is safe. It is very stressful to know a hurricane is coming and even though you can be prepared, it would be difficult to experience. Anyway, here’s hoping things will settle down and get back to normal soon.
May it be a comfort to you to know that we were praying for Jesse’s safety and for those that suffered damage during the storm.
With love from Rosie and Keith
